  • The headroom is the dimension from the top of the garage door opening to the lowest part of the ceiling (or overhanging obstruction) in the area of the garage door.
  • Doors can be installed in openings with as little as 4 1/2" and add 2 1/2" for electric operator.
  • Doors can be installed in openings where there is no headroom by building down the opening and reducing the height.
  • Standard door heights can be 6'0" high increasing in 3" increments.

  • The sideroom is the minimum space on each side of the door opening from floor to ceiling.

Note: Light fixtures and mezanines can be moved. Beams cannot be moved or altered.

Door Requirements

How important is garage door insulation to you?

  • Garages used as work shops or with rooms above the garage should be well insulated.
  • Non-insulated doors are generally very light weight, resonate sound and are a source of condensation.
  • Lightly insulated doors generally have a vinyl liner that is easily damaged.
  • Garage door insulation is measured in "R" values: 0, 4.4, 6.5, 12 and 16.
